Erigeron bonariensis

Conyza bonariensis)。英名は Flax-leaved fleabane、Hairy fleabane、Argentine fleabane。
The Flax-leaved fleabane (Erigeron bonariensis) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an annual herb that is native to South America. It was introduced to Japan in the middle of the Meiji Era (1868-1912). It is now widely distributed in tropical and temperate regions of the world. It commonly grows in wastelands and along roadsides, and grows 30-50 cm tall. The entire plant is covered with grayish-white hairs and is characterized by the growth of lateral branches without a main stem. The lower leaves are pinnately lobed, while the upper ones are linear with twisted edges. Flower heads with barrel-shaped bracts bloom from May to October. The ray flowers are barely noticeable. The species name is derived from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
