 
 わが国の本州、中部地方以北から北海道それに千島、サハリンに
分布しています。山地帯から亜高山帯のやや湿った林内に生え、高
さは１．５〜２メートルになります。葉には単子葉植物にはめずらし
く、網状脈があります。７月から８月ごろ、茎の上部に緑白色の花を
横向きに咲かせます。花は１０数年に一度咲き、花後は枯れてしま
います。鱗茎にはデンプンが含まれ、食用にされてきました。
ユリ科ウバユリ属の多年草で、学名は Cardiocrinum cordatum var.
glehnii。英名はありません。
"Oo-uba-yuri" (Cardiocrinum cordatum var. glehnii) belongs to Liliaceae
(the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from
Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido of Japan, the Kuril Islands and
Sakhalin. This herb grows in montane to subalpine wetish woodlands and
can reach 1.5-2 m in height. The leaves are net-veined. The spikes are
borne on the upper stem and the greenish white flowers bloom sideways.
The flowers are produced only on mature, over 10 years old. They are
blighted after bearing. The bulbs contain amylum and have been used for
food.
