 わが国の各地をはじめ、朝鮮半島や中国に分布しています。山地の
草原や道ばたなどに生え、高さは１メートルほどになります。茎には
全体に毛が多く、葉は羽状に深裂したり、分裂しないものがありま
す。８月から１０月ごろ、茎の上部で分枝して、小さな白い花をいっぱ
いに咲かせます。名前は、「おみなえし（女郎花）」と対でつけられた
もので、男性的で強壮な感じがすることから。果実には丸い団扇のよ
うな翼があります。
オミナエシ科オミナエシ属の多年草で、学名は Patrinia villosa。
英名はありません。
'Otokoeshi' (Patrinia villosa) belongs to Valerianaceae (Valerian family). It
is a perennial herb that is distributed to Japan, Korean Peninsula and
China. This herb occurs in montane grasslands or roadsides and can reach
about 1 m in height. The stem is hairy and branched at the upper part. The
leaves are pinnatipartite or undivided. The colymbs are borne and bloom
small white flowers from August to October. The fruit has a round wing.
