わが国の四国南部と九州に分布しています。日当たりのよい草原に生え、高さは1〜1.5メートルになります。葉は卵形から広披針形で、裏面には淡褐色を帯びた白い星状毛が密生します。7月から10月ごろ、本年枝の先端に円錐花序をだし、小さな淡い紫色の花を咲かせます。花冠は筒状花で「ふさふじうつぎ(房藤空木)」に似ています。サボニンを含む有毒植物です。 
フジウツギ科フジウツギ属の落葉低木で、学名は Buddleja curviflora f. venenifera。英名はありません。 
The "Urajiro-fuji-utsugi" (Buddleja curviflora f. venenifera) belongs to Buddlejaceae (the Butterfly bush family). It is a deciduous small tree that is distributed in southern Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. It grows in sunny grasslands and grows 1 to 1.5 m tall. Leaves are ovate to broadly lanceolate with dense white stellate hairs on the underside that are light brown in color. From July to October, small, pale purple flowers bloom in panicles at the tips of the one year branches. The corolla is tubular, similar to that of the Butterfly bush. It is a toxic plant containing saponin.
