オーストラリアの北部と南部、それに西部に分布しています。乾燥した低木地帯に生え、高さは１．５〜１．８メートルになります。葉は掌状に５深裂します。「ハイビスカス」の近縁で、花冠はやや小型です。一年中、葉腋から花柄を伸ばして、藤色あるいは赤紫色の花を咲かせます。

アオイ科アリオギネ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Alyogyne huegelii。英名は Blue hibiscus、Lilac hibiscus。

The Blue hibiscus (Alyogyne huegelii) belongs to Malvaceae (the Mallow family). It is an evergreen shrub that is found in northern, southern and western Australia. It grows in dry scrubland and is 1.5-1.8 m tall. The leaves split 5 deep lobes palmately. A close relative of the "hibiscus", with a slightly smaller corolla. The wisteria- or reddish-purple flowers are produced from the leaf axils all year round.
