 
 インドおよびジャワ島が原産です。高さは１５〜２０センチほどになり
ます。葉は卵形から心形で、灰緑色で金属的な光沢があります。
裏面は暗い紫色です。夏に小さな鐘形の白い５弁花を咲かせます。
和名では「しそもどき（紫蘇擬き）」と呼ばれます。写真下は、葉が紫
褐色の園芸品種「エクゾティカ（cv. Exotica）」。
キツネノマゴ科ヒロハサギゴケ属の常緑多年草で、学名は
Hemigraphis alternata。英名は Red ivy。
Red ivy (Hemigraphis alternata) belongs to Acanthaceae (the Ruellia
family). It is a perennial evergreen herb that is native to India and the Java
Islands. This herb can reach 15-25 cm in height. The leaves are ovate to
cordate, grayish-green and waffled glossy. The abaxial sides are dark
purple. The flowers are small bell-shaped, white, five-petaled and bloom in
summer. The bottom photo is a purplish-brown leaved cultivar "Exotica".
