 アメリカのミズーリー州から南へテキサス州、それにメキシコが原産
です。今では、わが国にも帰化しています。乾燥したやせ地でもよく
育ち、グランドカバーに利用されます。ほかの「つきみそう」とは異な
り、昼間に咲いて２〜３日はしぼみません。花期は春から夏いっぱ
い。花は白色ですが、やがて淡いピンク色に変化します。
アカバナ科マツヨイグサ属の多年草で、学名は Oenothera speciosa。
英名は Pink evening primrose, Showy evening primrose。
Pink evening primrose belongs to the Onagraceae (the Evening primrose
family). It is a perennial herb that is native from Missouuri south to Texas
and Mexico. Now a days, this herb is naturalized in Japan. It grows well in
arid barrens and used as a groundcover. The flowers bloom during the day
and remain for 2-3 days, though the other evening primroses bloom at
night. They are white at beginning and turn pink gradually.
