 ヨーロッパの野生の「スミレ」から改良されたもので、「ガーデンパン
ジー（Garden pansy）」とも呼ばれます。花径が５センチ以上のものを
いい、それより小さなものは「タフテッドパンジー（Tufted pansy）」、また
は「ビオラ（Viola）」と呼ばれます。花期は秋から春にかけて。花色が
豊富で春の花壇を彩る代表的な花です。わが国では、小輪系の「パ
ンジー」を「ビオラ」と呼びますが、厳密には区別できません。
スミレ科スミレ属の多年草で、学名は Viola x wittrockiana。
英名は Tufted pansy。
Tufted pansy also called viola belongs to Violaceae (Viola family). It is a
pernnial herb that is breeded from European wild violas. Viola is also called
Garden pansy. The species with up to 5 cm in flower diameter are called
Pansy, and the species less than 5 cm are called Tufted pansy or Viola. The
flower comes from fall to spring. Tufted pansy has many flower colors, and
popular bedding plant.
