ヨーロッパから西アジアが原産です。わが国へは明治時代に帰化しました。高さは30〜60センチほどになり、茎はよく分枝して四方八方に広がります。6月から7月ごろ、茎の先に小さな黄色い花を咲かせます。和名は、英名の直訳です。
アブラナ科キバナハタザオ属の一年草で、学名は Sisymbrium officinale。英名は Hedge mustard。
The Hedge mustard (Sisymbrium officinale) belongs to Brassiaceae (the Mustard family). It is an annual herb that is native to Europe and West Asia. This herb was introduce into Japan in Meiji Era (about 120 years ago). It can reach 30-60 cm in height. The stem is much branched and spreads in all directions horizontally. The small yellow flowers come in the branch apices from June to July. The Japanese name "Kakine-garashi" is a literal translation of English common name.
