 
 わが国の各地をはじめ、朝鮮半島や中国に分布しています。山地に
生え、高さは１メートルほどになります。全体に強い臭気があります。
広卵形の葉は対生し、縁には鋭い鋸歯があります。８月から１０月ご
ろ、上部の葉腋から長い柄のある集散花序をだし、青紫色の花をま
ばらに咲かせます。花冠の先は５裂しています。名前は花のかたち
から。別名で「ほかけそう（帆掛草）」とも呼ばれます。
クマツヅラ科カリガネソウ属の多年草で、学名は Caryopteris
divaricata。英名はありません。
"Karigane-so" (Caryopteris divaricata) belongs to the Verbenaceae (the
Verbena family). It is a perennial herb that is native to all over Japan, also
the Korean Peninsula and east-northern China. This herb grows in
mountains and can reach about 1 m in height. The whole plant has strong
odor. The leaves are broad-ovate, opposite with acute serrated edges. The
cymes with long petioles are borne on the upper axils, and the bluish-purple
flowers bloom sparsely from August to October. The collora is quintuple-
lobate at the tips.
