 
 わが国の各地をはじめ、東アジアに広く分布しています。山地にごく
ふつうに生え、高さは２〜３メートルになります。葉は卵形で、互生し
ます。３月から４月ごろ、葉に先立って総状花序を下垂し、淡黄色の
花を咲かせます。名前は、果実を五倍子（ふし）の代わりに染料に利
用したことから。雌雄異株です。
キブシ科キブシ属の落葉低木で、学名は Stachyurus praecox。
英名はありません。
"Kibushi" (Stachyurus praecox) belongs to Stachyuraceae. It is a small
deciduous tree that is distributed widely throughout Japan and East Asia.
This tree grows in mountains commonly and can reach 2-3 m in height. The
leaves are ovate and alternate. From March to April, racemes of small pale
yellowish flowers droop down before foliation. Japanese name means
"Chinese gall tree" because of this fruits have been used for dyestuff as a
substitute for "Chinese gall". This tree is dioecism.
