わが国の本州、中部地方以北から北海道南部に分布してます。山地から亜高山帯の砂礫地や草地に生え、高さは３０〜６０センチになります。葉は線形で叢生します。６月から７月ごろ、茎頂に２〜４個の小穂をつけます。頂小穂は雄性か雌雄性、側小穂は雌性、苞は葉状です。

カヤツリグサ科スゲ属の多年草で、学名は Carex doenitzii。英名はありません。

"Ko-tanuki-ran" (Carex doenitzii) belongs to Cyperaceae (the Sedge family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Chubu district of Honshu to southern Hokkaido of Japan. This herb grows in montane to subalpine screes and grasslands, and can reach 30-60 cm in height. The leaves are linear and clumping. The 2-4 spikelets are borne on the stem apices from June to July. The upper spikelet is male or ambisexual and the side spikelets are female with leafy bracts.
