 
 わが国の本州から四国・九州、それに台湾や朝鮮半島、中国に分
布しています。海岸近くや低地に生え、半蔓性で高さは２〜２．５メー
トルになります。葉は長楕円形で対生し、葉腋には棘があります。８
月から９月ごろ、淡紫色または白色の花を咲かせます。晩秋には、
小さな卵形の果実が真っ赤に熟します。葉は枸杞葉（くこよう）、果実
は枸杞子（くこし）それに根は地骨皮（じこっぴ）と呼ばれて薬用にさ
れます。
ナス科クコ属の落葉低木で、学名は Lycium chinense。
英名は Chinese boxthorn。
Chinese boxthorn belongs to the Solanaceae (the Nightshade family). It is a
small evergreen tree that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu of
Japan and Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula, China. This semi-vine tree grows
in coastal areas, low lands and can reach 2-2.5 m in height. The leaves are
elliptic and alternate. The spines are borne in the leaf axils. Pale purple to
white flowers come in August to September. The fruits are small ovate and
ripen bright red in late fall. They are used for Chinese herbal medicine.
