 南アフリカのケープ地方に分布しています。乾燥地帯に生え、高さは
３０センチほどになります。茎は匍匐して這うように広がり、古くなると
木質化します。５月から７月ごろ、茎頂に、直径５センチほどのピンク
色から紫色の花を咲かせます。名前は「きく」のような花と、松葉の
ような多肉質の葉に因みます。園芸上は、マツバギク属の１０種ほど
とその交配種、近縁のケファロフィルム属の形態的に近たものが「ま
つばぎく」と呼ばれています。
ツルナ科マツバギク属の常緑多年草で、学名は Lampranthus
spectabilis。英名は Fig marigold, Trailing ice plant。
Fig marigold belongs to Aizoaceae (the Ice plant family). It is an evergreen
perennial herb that is native to Cape Province of South Africa. This herb
grows in arid areas and can reach about 30 cm in height. The stem spreads
by creeping on the ground and lignifies when aging. The pink to purple
flowers, about 5 cm in diameter come in May to July. Fig marigold is
comprising about 10 species of genus Lampranthus, their hybrids, and
closely related genus Cephalophyllum in horticulture.
