 わが国の本州、関東地方以西から四国・九州、それに東南アジアに
かけて広く分布しています。暖地の林内に生え、高さは３０〜１００セ
ンチになります。葉は長楕円形で互生し、縁には波状の鋸歯があり
ます。７月から８月ごろ、枝先に小さな白い花を咲かせ、果実は１１
月ごろに赤く熟します。庭木としてよく植栽されています。
ヤブコウジ科ヤブコウジ属の常緑低木で、学名は Ardisia crenata。
英名 Coralberry。
Coralberry belongs to Myrsinaceae (Myrsine family). It is an evergreen
small tree that is distributed widely westward from Kanto district of Honshu
to Shikoku, Kyushu of Japan and Southeast Asia. This tree occurs in warm
forests and can reach 30-100 cm in height. The leaves are oblong and
alternate with wavy serration. The small white flowers come on the terminal
twigs form July to August. The fruits ripen red in November. This tree is
usually planted in the gardens.
