大西洋にあるカナリア諸島が原産です。わが国へは明治時代に渡来しました。高さは５０〜８０センチになり、茎の基部が木質化するのが特徴です。葉は羽状に全裂するか２回羽状複葉です。３月から５ごろ、茎の先に白色の舌状花と黄色い管状花をもつ頭花を咲かせます。今では黄色やピンクの花色、管咲きや丁字咲きの品種も作出されています。和名では「もくしゅんぎく（木春菊）」と呼ばれます。

キク科キク属の多年草で、学名は Chrysanthemum frutescens。英名は Marguerite。 
The Marguerite (Chrysanthemum frutescens) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. This herb was introduced into Japan in the Meiji Era (about 130 years ago). This herb can reach 50-80 cm in height, and the base of stems lignify. Leaves are dissected or bipinnate. Flower-like heads with white rays on the termial stems come from March to May. Various cultivars are breeded, such as yellow or pink flower color, spider or anemone type.
