 
 わが国の各地をはじめ、朝鮮半島や中国に分布しています。山野
や道ばたの水辺に群生して生え、高さは３０〜１００センチになりま
す。茎にはまばらに下向きの棘があります。葉は卵状鉾形で互生
し、基部は耳状にはりだします。７月から１０月ごろ、枝先に球状の
花序をだし、小さな花を１０個くらい咲かせます。葉がウシの顔に似
ているところから「うしのひたい（牛の額）」の別名があります。
タデ科タデ属の一年草で、学名は Polygonum thunbergii。
英名はありません。
"Mizo-soba" (Polygonum thunbergii) belongs to Polygonaceae (the
Knotweed family). It is an annual herb that is native to all over Japan,
the Korean Peninsula and China. This herb occurs in mountains and fields,
water's edges along roadsides and can reach 30-100 cm in height. The
stem has coarsely downward spines. The leaves are ovate-hastate,
alternate with subauriculate bases. The spherical clusters are borne at the
terminal branches and bloom about 10 small flowers from July to October.
