わが国の各地に分布しています。山地の湿り気のある日陰などに生え、高さは３０センチほどになります。「あおみず（青みず）」に似ていますが、茎が褐色を帯びるのが特徴です。葉は卵形で粗い鋸歯があります。鋸歯の数も５対内外と少なく、先端は尖りません。７月から１０月ごろ、葉腋にかたまって花を咲かせます。

イラクサ科ミズ属の一年草で、学名は Pilea hamaoi。英名はありません。

"Mizu" (Pilea hamaoi) belongs to Urticaceae (the Nettle family). It is an annual herb that is distributed all over Japan. This herb grows in the moist shade of the mountains and can reach about 30 cm in height. It is similar to "Aomizu", but it has a brownish stem. The leaves are ovate and have coarse serrations. The number of saw teeth is in and around 5 pairs, and the tip is not sharp. The flowers bloom in clustered on the axils from July to October.
