みずひき (水引)

わが国の各地をはじめ、朝鮮半島や中国、インドネシアに分布しています。草むらや山地の木陰などに生え、高さは３０〜５０センチになります。葉は長楕円形で互生します。９月から１０月ごろ、茎頂から細い総状花序を伸ばして、赤色の小さな花をまばらに咲かせます。名前は、この花をつけた花穂のかたちを赤い水引に、また花の上が赤く下が白いのを紅白の水引に見たてたとも言われています。 |

タデ科タデ属の多年草で、学名は Polygonum filiforme。英名はありません。 |

"Mizu-hiki" (Polygonum filiforme) belongs to the Polygonaceae (the Knotweed family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed to throughout Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula, China and Indonesia. This herb grows in tussoks or montane shady places and can reach 30-50 cm in height. The leaves are oblong and alternate. The slender racemes are borne on the shoot apices and bloom small red flowers sparsely. |
