 ヒマラヤ周辺が原産地だといわれています。現在では広く栽培され、
地中海沿岸が主な産地となっています。高さは２〜７メートルになり、
葉腋には棘があります。葉は卵状楕円形から披針形です。５月から
１０月ごろ、総状花序に芳香のある白い花を咲かせます。果実は古く
から、飲料や香料に利用されてきました。
ミカン科ミカン属の常緑低木で、学名は Citrus limon。
英名は Lemon。
Lemon belongs to Rutaceae (Citrus family). It is an evergreen small tree that
is native to around the Himalaya. This tree is cultivated widely, and the main
producing district is nowadays coastal area of the Mediterranean Sea. It
can reach 2-7 m in height and has spines on the axiles. Leaves are ovate-
elliptic to lanceolate. Fragrant white flowers come on the racemes from
May to October. Fruits have been used for beverage and purfume.
