東南アジアが原産です。灌木状で棘が多く、高さは５メートルほどになります。葉は卵形で葉柄には小さな翼があります。一年を通じて黄白色でわずかに淡紫色を帯びた花を咲かせます。果実は球形で、直径２．５〜５センチ、黄色く熟します。果実は酸味が強くて独特の芳香があり、料理の付け合わせや飲み物の香り付けに使われます。

ミカン科ミカン属の常緑低木で、学名は Citrus aurantifolia。
英名は Lime。

Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) belongs to Rutaceae (Citrus family). It is an evergreen small tree that is native to Southeast Asia. This tree is shrubby with many thorns and can reach about 5 m ih height. The leaves are ovate with small wings. The flowers are yellowish white with a light purple tinge on the margins and appear throughout the year. The fruits are globose 2.5-5 cm across and ripen in yellow. They has a high acidity, a strong aroma and used for a garnish of dishes or a flavouring in beverages.
