	ヨーロッパが原産です。わが国でも観賞用や牧草として栽培されていたものが帰化しています。高さは６０センチほどになり、葉は２～３回羽状複葉で細かく裂け、両面に軟毛があります。花期は６月から９月ごろ、茎の先に散房花序をつけ、白色または淡紅色の花を咲かせます。学名は、ギリシャの英雄アキレスがトロイ戦争の時、傷の手当てに用いたことに因みます。昔から止血薬や抗炎症薬として、また今では風邪のときの湿布薬として使われています。写真中７は園芸品種の「クリステル（cv. Christel）」。
	キク科ノコギリソウ属の多年草で、学名は Achillea millefolium。英名は Yarrow、Milfoil。
	The Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) belongs to the Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Europe. This herb escaped from cultivation and is naturalized in Japan. It can reach about 60 cm in height and the leaves are bipinnately to tripinnately compound with soft hairs on both sides. The corymbs are borne on the stem apices and produce white to pale pink flowerheads from June to September. The genus name is derived from the Greek hero Achilles, who carried yarrow with his army to treat wounds at the battle of Troy. This herb has been used as a hemostatic and anti-inflammatory agent since ancient times. (edit by Greg Brockelbank)
