 
 わが国の本州、中部地方以西から四国・九州それに朝鮮半島や中
国に分布しています。湿原や崖上に生え、高さは３０センチほどにな
ります。葉は広披針形で根生します。５月から６月ごろ、花茎を伸ば
して紅紫色の花を総状にまばらに咲かせます。本種のような野生蘭
の根は「白及根（はくきゅうこん）」と呼ばれ、漢方ではひびやあかぎ
れの薬として利用されます。
ラン科シラン属の多年草で、学名は Bletilla striata。
英名は Hyacinth orchid。
Hyacinth orchid (Bletilla striata) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid
family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed westward from Chubu
district of Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu, the Korean Peninsula and China.
This herb grows in wet fields and bluffs, and can reach about 30 cm in
height. The leaves are broad-lanceolate and basal. The flower stalks are
borne and the magenta flowers bloom sparsely in racemose clusters from
May to June. The roots are used as a herbal medecine for chapped skin.
