 わが国の本州の一部、静岡・三重・熊本県と中国からヒマラヤに分
布しています。わが国では、熊本県の小岱山（しょうたいさん）、三重
県の伊勢神宮、静岡県湖西市の神座地区が群生地として知られて
います。卵形の葉は暗い緑色で、互生します。４月から５月ごろ、枝
先から花柄をだして、淡いクリーム色の花を咲かせます。花弁は４個
あり、３〜６個の小花がまとまってつきます。
マンサク科トキワマンサク属の常緑小高木で、学名は Loropetalum
chinense。英名は Fringe flower, Evergreen witchhazel。
Fringe flower belongs to Hamamelidaceae (Witch hazel family). It is an
evergreen semi-tall tree that is distributed Shizuoka, Mie and Kumamoto
prefecture of Japan and China to Himalaya. Famous colonies are known in
Mt. Shotai (Kumamoto), Ise Shrine (Mie) and Kanza district (Shizuoka).
Leaves are ovate, dark green and alternate. Pale creamy flowers come on
the peduncles from April to May. Flowers have 4 petals and come 3-6 in a
cluster.
