 
 メキシコが原産です。わが国へは江戸時代の後期に渡来しました。
塊茎があり、夏に花茎を伸ばして「すいせん」に似た乳白色の花を咲
かせます。花には芳香があり、とくに夜になると強くなります。昔、ア
ステカの人々は、この香油をチョコレートのフレーバーに使ったそうで
す。別名で「げっかこう（月下香）」とも呼ばれます。
リュウゼツラン科ポリアンテス属の多年草で、学名は Polianthes
tuberosa。英名は Tuberose。
Tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa) belongs to the Agavaceae (the Agave
family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Mexico. It was introduced
into Japan in the latter term of Edo Era (about 200 years ago). It has
caudices. The flowering stalks are borne, and the daffodil-like milky-white
flowers bloom in summer. The flowers are scented, and the aroma gets up
in night. The perfume oil was used as a flavor of chocolate in the days of
Aztec.
